someone stole my bike

Last year I found an old bike at the
swap shop at the New Hampshire dump.
I took it home and spray painted it.....
I wrapped it all up in tape and paper
and plastic and sprayed it Krylon Ocean Breeze.
We brought it home to our Boston home.
It got a new basket with some flowers.
It looked so cute out there.
It spent its winter outside, keeping the pink swing company.
Spring came soon enough.
An American flag was in the
basket for Memorial Day and the 4th of July.
I grew used to seeing this happy bike outside the house.
Even though it had two flat tires, and was purely eye candy,
I loved this bike.
It was free, and cost me the price of a can of spray paint.
Sometime they say the best things in life are free.
This afternoon when I came down my steps, I saw that it was gone.
 Someone took my bike!
I mean, someone walked up onto my property and stole my bike.
I was so bummed. Why anyone would take a bike with two flat tires is beyond me....
so the next time I have a bike out front because
I like how it makes the house look~
I will chain it to the tree or the porch pole. Sad.

  1. I chain my things up too. I was brought up in Dallas and we trust no one. That's terrible that someone stole it.

  3. That is sad, Amy. Someone stole my daughter and son-in-law's simple little BBQ from in front of their apartment. I told her if she gets another to chain it up. Some people are just unbelievable!

  7. That's awful! But I'm surprised it didn't happen sooner since you didn't have it chained. I bet it was a kid that took it. I once had a scarecrow stolen off my porch at my other house. I knew it had to be a kid because it wasn't anything anyone would want except me...because it was wearing and old dress and hat of mine and I really didn't want to lose those. I hope you can find another bike. I bet you make a trip to the dump soon.

  9. I'm sorry that happened Amy. You know some schmuck has it in their own yard now...and they probably did chain it down. I have been looking off and on for an old bike like yours and I decided already that I'd have to chain it to something. I had my favorite outdoor planters stolen right off my porch a year or so ago. It just amazes me at how low people will go. So sorry about your bike and I hope another one comes along to keep the pink swing company...and make you smile every time you see it!

  11. Wow Amy! That sucks! How low can you go? I understand though. I live in an amazing neighborhood and we have never had a problem with anything. Last summer I came outside and lo and behold, ALL of my really gorgeous copper topped solar lights were GONE! All ten of them...and do you know what? They hit our neighbor's house too! I am still mad!!!!! LOL! (*_*)

  12. What a shame - I loved your cute bike! It is an awful feeling to know that someone came onto your property like that and took what was yours. I am so sorry :(

  14. I am so sorry this happened to you, Amy! It's so sad that people have to be this way.

  16. Oh No!

There's so many people that think they are entitled to anything they want.

I hope you find another one soon! Hugs!

  17. Amy...so sorry!!!! I cannot believe someone would do that! Did you call the police? I mean not everyone is riding around on a turquoise vintage bicycle! How do people like that sleep at night? I wonder, hope you can find a suitable replacement, as I agree it was such a beautiful addition to your beautiful setting.

  18. So sad, I hate a thief! That was the cutest bike ever. I put lots of lovelies on my front porch. I'm always a little worried they won't be there when I get home. So sorry.

  19. Sadly, this reminds me of the thing I miss most about living in Germany. There, in my village, I could leave my garage door open all day and no one would take a thing - their thought would be "It's not mine, it's none of my business, continue on" (Also why I think they can put out beautiful windowboxes on bridges, etc., and no one comes along and pushes them in. There are a few good things about the "best for everyone" mindset.) In America, my home country, I think the thought is more"Sucker! You left your garage open, that means I can take whatever I want." I hate it. So sorry about your lovely bike - and the anger you probably are feeling that someone put their happiness in front of yours and TOOK something that didn't belong to them, but could have given them joy from the street as they passed by. May I just say, I hope that Karma is a bitch for that person. :) Love your site, first time commenting. Have a better week and enjoy your sweet home.

  20. Oh my... some people can be so mean.

Stealing that lovely bike of yours...
karma is there to avenge you ♥

  21. I am SO sorry!! That is actually disgusting that someone would do that. And it's such a distinctive color - you'd think they'd be worried that someone would spot it. I had my bike stolen at college (in front of the art building) when it was secured up with a lock and chain!! It's so sad that people feel the need to do that!

  24. Oh my goodness - how rude!! What is it with people and taking what's not theirs! We just had all out solar garden lights stolen out of our front garden bed .. Hubs and I take the dogs for a walk in the evening and I look at all the gardens to see if anyone has some 'new' lights.. hard to tell as they are very common but your bike is a stand out - I hope you see them riding it down the street and I hope you stop and tell them its yours!!
Aside from that I do hope you are having a good weekend!
    Hugs to you!

  25. Amy, you should post a picture in your local paper so everyone knows it's stolen and maybe expose the thief. It gives you a bad feeling about your fellow man.

  26. So sorry to hear, Amy.
I can never understand how someone could possibly enjoy something stolen from another soul.

I still remember when I was a kid and my bike was stolen out of our breezeway, my dad drove me around for hours and we found it in the middle of a field just thrown there, how happy I was to have it back. It happened again a couple years later but we weren't so lucky that time.

Don't let one rotten act spoil your sunny nature though (if possible ;)
    xoxo~Tracie

  27. How awful. I hope the person that took it feels a tremendous sense of shame every time they look at it-so much so that they are not able to enjoy it!

It's funny- I picked a bike up about 2 years ago-just drug it out of the garage and just bought that same paint to use on it. Don't know where you live but if you see MY OWN do NOT think I stole yours..because-guess what? This one has two flat tires too. Wait -Wait- I am safe- My own bike has a BROWN leather seat! Pheeweee! xo Diana

  28. I don't have a cute bike like you had but I do have a bench out by the street...it is chained down, a sad comentary but unfortunately everyone out there isn't nice. I hope that you can find either your bike or a replacement soon, it was so charming.

  29. Don't you just hate it when someone takes something that doesn't belong to them??? Your bike was so pretty - they must have really liked it! Someone stole our very large pumpkins from the front porch last year - they were so big and heavy and we brought them all the way from Pennsylvania to Florida - all I could say was I hoped they got a hernia lifting those heavy things!

  30. I'm so sorry you lost your bike. I got my sister in law's old bike and was so bummed when it was stolen. I'm always fussing w/ my daughter's friends when they leave their bikes on the lawn or porch. I tell them to bring it in the backyard. I remembered, when I first started to read your blog, that you had a picture of the bike in front of a store's picture. bummer!!!

  31. Just as I would never throw my trash out of my car I can't imagine ever taking something that doesn't belong to me...it is so much a part of who I am. Some people just do not have a moral compass. Karma will win out in the end but right now, I am sorry you had your bike stolen.

  32. Well, here's to hoping that the people who took it enjoy it as much as you did.

  33. Amy,
That is terrible! We had a beautiful chippy big birdhouse taken from our porch. So I don't put anything out there that is worth anything to anyone anymore. Too bad.

  34. That just burns me up. Bad karma for the thief! I have a similar bike that I got for mothers day and I love it.

  35. awwww.. that is just plain rotten. What a cute bike... I remember when you first posted about it last year... I really wanted one too.

  36. Hi Amy, so sorry about your bike. Unfortunately this is the kind of world we live in. We have to lock things up and tie things down. Very sad. I hope you find another bike somewhere down the track to grace your home again! take care, Maryann

  37. Oh bummer, I hate to read that about your bike. Some people...I hope you find another one even better.

  38. Such a sad ending to a lovely post. :( You know if the bike had been left red or black you would still have it. Someone was taken in by the vintage look of ocean blue. It is heartbreaking that we can't trust people any longer. I am sorry for your loss. I had a bike stolen from up by my house years ago. I feel so violated!

  40. AHHHHHH damn I feel for you!! I had a bike stolen recently. That bike was so gorgeous and well sprayed.

I've got a bike now that I'm thinking of spraying a similar colour, probably grey and turquoise though.
