A miniature valance out of the Brimfield Toile
I found now hangs at my kitchen window.
Since I collect purple transferware
and have started moving more pieces into the
kitchen I thought I would use a bit of it as a valance.
The pattern says "Hunting Toile Samarcand Selection 1992" on the selvage edge.
The plates I hung on the cabinets are from a dinner set I just bought off of eBay
in the Claire Cliff Rural Scenes pattern.
There are different scenes depicted on the plates, bowls and saucers.
I plan to keep the dinner and salad plates for use,
but hang the smaller ones in my kitchen.
I have different pieces up on the window shelf I made,
it is a nice area to display things in my very small kitchen.
Still, with the plates hung and displayed, it didn't look so great.
This is my dream kitchen~remember this image
from Carolyn Westbook's The French Inspired Home?
How could I even come close to this?
Well I am still working on it,
but the valance has gotten me a
little closer to achieving the look I was inspired by.
Shall I do beadboard next on the backsplash?
And then paint it light apple green?
I'll confess I have been dreaming of marble counter tops too.
I started painting over my grey lower cabinets...
Its a work in progress,
but this charming little valance
and
I love the curtains!
ReplyDeleteHi Amy! How pretty! I love your little sweet valance and the fabric is just 'you'! :)
ReplyDeleteBe a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
Hi Amy:
ReplyDeleteLove your valance and transferware, purple is hard to find, I missed Brimfield this time, but sounds like you had a great time,
martha
Love...Love...Love, it all looks so pretty. The purple is very usual. I think should do the bead board but maybe just the wall paper bead board. I used it and it is very easy and looks like the real thing and you can paint it any color you want! Good luck and keep us posted.
ReplyDeleteLOVE it! So pretty! On a bit of a side note, if you like the look of marble but can't afford the cost, Formica makes a new high end laminate that resembles real stone. You can request free samples to be sent to you. I did and not only was I impressed with the size of the samples (they are like 10" x 10"!) but it actually looks VERY close to actual stone/marble! Definitely worth checking out. (BTW, they also have quartz, granite and other look-alike samples which can be found on their samples page.)
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see what changes you make next! :)

Omg, i love your inspiration picture, and you're really really getting close. I like the cohesiveness of using only the purple transferware grouped together, it looks so good with the white cabinets... what is that on the walls in your inspiration photo, a soft sagey green and white stripe wallpaper,? because it does look good with the purple for sure... and the valance is darlin!

I love these colors!!! ciao Flavia
ReplyDeleteLove the transfer-ware in purple! the new valance is adorable! I love it !
ReplyDeleteI think the beadboard back splash is the way to go. It's so much easier to keep nice too!
You are on your way to having a fabulous kitchen my friend!
I am still at the starting gate...literally!
Have a wonderful afternoon!
Hugs
Donna
P.S. I did see the burlap pumpkins! Too Cute!
I remember seeing that kitchen in a magazine years before Carolyn's book. I've always loved it. I remember liking the color scheme and the antlers. I thought it was a great farmhouse style kitchen. I think you're headed in the right direction with that lavendar toile material! Can't wait to see it completed.
ReplyDeleteOh Amy, it's perfect!!! I've looked at that book dozens of times, and I never realized that was purple transfer, your collection is wonderful, and isn't our home always a "WIP"?
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking up! xoxo
It looks beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThat is a pretty little valance. I think beadboard sounds very nice for a backsplash. I don't know know about painting it green, though.
ReplyDeleteJust the perfect little touch of fabric there, Amy! I think it goes great with your new transferware dishes. That is a fabulous kitchen ~ I love her upper cabinets. Somehow, I don't think it would look as nice in my house though with food items showing through the glass!
ReplyDeleteI just love how the purple looks in your kitchen...the purple transferware is gorgeous. So glad that I found your blog on Farmhouse Friday. I'm now your newest Follower.

ReplyDeletethey are gorgeous Amy!!
ReplyDeleteYou definitly have a head start on that dream kitchen. Your kitchen is lovely. I love the creamy white with the purple. Believe it or not, in 1962, our first home, had a wool lavender broadloom carpet in the Lr and Dr. The walls were a dusty pink. It really was pretty, really!
ReplyDeleteYour purple and white transfer is beautifuj as well and what a statement it makes. Keep us posted on the progress. xo, Ginger
I just subscribed by email and I grabbed your button. We come by and get my button. Thanks, Ginger
ReplyDeleteThe perfect little touch of fabric. Amy! I think it goes great with your new transfer ware dishes. That is a fabulous kitchen, those upper cabinets are wonderful.
ReplyDeleteWas at Vogue Fabrics in Evanston right after your Brimfield post and when I saw a purple and cream toile, immediately thought of you! If you want me to grab you a swatch, let me know. (Just what I need, another excuse to go to a fabric store -- ha!)
