Style a kitchen with color!

Dill Pickle Green!

This was the wall color I chose for Colleen's lovely kitchen.

I did a color consult on a kitchen this week for my favorite

painting contractor, Jason Murphy of

Murphy Brothers Painting Company of Woburn, MA.

Jason and I have worked on more than a few projects together.

 Colleen's kitchen was what most of us would dream of having~

 plenty of cabinets and loads of countertop space, all in beautiful finishes.

 But something about the space fell short.  

It needed a dose of personality and some accessories to 

create a warm and welcoming space.  The easiest way to do that

is to use the power of paint! This time it would be paint for the walls however,

 as most of you  know I blog about painting furniture quite often 

these days as my sons and I sell Chalk Paint® by Annie Sloan 

at our home decor shop Maison Decor in Reading, MA.

So the color was chosen: Ben Moore Dill Pickle.

There actually wasn't a lot of wall space, so it was easy to 

go with this bright and citrusy green color.

The next part of the plan was to accessorize with 

great affordable items from HomeGoods and my shop, Maison Decor.

The accessories would pull it all together, and my plan

was to repeat this vibrant green color throughout the space.

 A chevron area rug from HomeGoods in black and white stands

 up to the green wall color and ties in the black island and stools.

The space in front of the bar area was a big empty space

waiting for an identity.  A piece of furniture with lamps and 

lots of interesting accessories created a sense of place.

This furniture vignette made the kitchen feel more homey.

The bar area before was a big empty space 

that was all tile floor and cabinetry.

The bar area after~the wall paint sets off the cabinetry 

and the rug warms up the tile floor and gives the space style.

A vintage server from Maison Decor in rustic Old White finish

gets a helping hand from HomeGoods with some great lamps

with linen shades, topiaries and some smalls.

 Its always fun to buy colored stemware for a festive party note,

and color coordinate your cocktail napkins as well. 

These HomeGoods topiaries had red velvet bows, which I 

just snipped off and replaced with a black and white striped ribbon.

Mixing up black, white, dill pickle green and natural elements

is what the plan was for decorating this kitchen. 

 Little moments in rustic naturals with the bright citrus green

 are dotted around the kitchen.

 Fruit, faux or fresh is one of the easiest accessories in kitchen decor.

I accessorized the bookcase in the other cabinet wall area too using

different shades of greens in old books, artichoke bookends and antique

style metal crowns for a european touch.

Checkerboard dishes in green and white on french style quilted place mats

over the stone counter adds softness as does a mix and match variety of 

toss pillows on the seats of the black rustic bar stools.

Too often in a kitchen there is very little softness and when you can 

add fabrics it really makes a difference in warming up the space.

So this is how a dill pickle and a decorator

 rescued this kitchen from its formerly formal self!
