I finished the french chair~
it came out just like I hoped it would!!
Not for everyone, but certainly works for me!
Here is what I did to it~
Fresh from auction house~very nice lines and
good comfortable seat. The seat was in a faux leather
fabric that had a texture and finished with nailheads.
I wanted to copy a chair I had seen in House Beautiful
magazine that was in Sharon Osbourne's dining room~
I loved the blue and silver chairs and when I saw
these at auction they popped right into my head.
The first thing I did was to mix up a color that looked like Tiffany blue~
I used Chalk Paint® by Annie Sloan of course! I used Louis Blue
with Antibes Green, Pure White and Greek Blue. I painted the whole chair,
wood frame and upholstery. It looked quite fresh
and modern this way, but I was not finished.
Next I did a watery mix of French Linen
over the wood frame and wiped it off.
After the grey wash I used Rub n Buff in silverleaf
and applied it liberally with my fingertip~
After I finished hitting the wood frame
I touched on all the nailheads too~
Don't be a perfectionist with this~I use a plastic pallet
and squeeze a little bit at a time from the tube.
(I will also be deciding if I am going to seal the chair with wax~
and then see how the chair wears with regular use...
I'll keep all updated on this part of the process as it evolves.)

The Tiffany Chair~
Its glamorous and elegant~
I had to go look up Sharon Osbourne's dining room to see what your inspiration was after your email. Yes, they look like the inspiration. Very pretty. That's a quick fix for bad upholstery. Are you living being in your store now that's all redone by Betsy?
ReplyDeleteIt looks great, Amy! I love the silver rub n buff!
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful they look! I'm wondering how well the paint over vinyl will wear with actual day to day use. Do you have any experience with that you could share? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteAmy,
ReplyDeleteLove this chair.Did you have to seal it too?Silver and blue is a great combo.

Hi Amy,
ReplyDeleteYou have such wonderful insight knowing what a piece will look like after you've done your magic. I think yours are prettier than Sharon's.
Beautiful job.

Just gorgeous, Rub and Buff is one of my favorite products!
ReplyDeleteI haven't sealed it or waxed it yet~probably going to try the wax and then I will see how it wears...I will keep updating on the use of Chalk Paint™ on fabrics/leather~but can you imagine these in a hallway flanking a console table...chairs that would have little use. This really fixes up bad colored or stained upholstery in an easy and fast way!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! (explains it all)
ReplyDeleteYou nailed it, no somebody else nailed it and you made perfection.
ReplyDeleteThe chair looks amazing and your shop is really coming together. I like the changes you have made and so wish I lived close enough to visit.

I really like it! Wonder how the paint will hold up though after using it. I think it looks alot like your inspiration pic. Sharon always has such great style in her homes!
ReplyDeleteI love the chair! Your a master paint mixer! Rub n buff? We're do you find that?
ReplyDeleteHi Amy~~ I love that you painted the whole thing. It turned out great!! BTW- Still trying to find the perfect spot for the clock. It needs to be in my house:))

She is a beauty indeed! I love it and I have saved that image from Sharon O's place, too. It looks like it is all falling into place nicely! Good things come to good people! xoDiana
ReplyDeleteThe chair is beautiful! I love the color- how on earth did you manage to mix up enough paint to do the whole thing? I'm notorious for running out of any custom mix partway through my project! I too am curious how it will hold up on the fabric.
ReplyDeleteOne word here..."Outstanding!!!"
ReplyDeleteIt's elegant all right and downright beautiful!
ReplyDeleteYou did a beautiful job transforming that chair - wow!
ReplyDeleteWow!!...Was that the chair that Betsy was drooling over?I love the way you mix colors, creating such wonderful new tones......the chair is gorgeous...Everyone needs Tiffany Blue in their lives!!

ReplyDeleteHi Amy,
ReplyDeleteStunning! A lovely transformation! I have been painting with Chalk Piant and looking around your blog for tips and tricks... your posts are always so clear and helpful, and so inspiring!

That chair is a definite keeper. Looks like you have at least one more of those. You must have a wonderful ability to see what you want something to look like when you're done.
ReplyDeleteI keep thinking of all the pieces I got rid of that I'd love to redo now. Don't know where I'd have kept them but I wish I still had them to work on. Have been inspired by so many of you wonderful bloggers.
Your chair is the prettiest painted fabric furniture that i have seen..I have been considering doing this, but so unsure, because I haven't seen anything that convinced me it would work...You so did...Thanks for sharing...
ReplyDeleteBlessings, Becky
OMG! Amy!! LOVE LOVE this!!
ReplyDeleteSO love it!
Lou Cinda :)
Have you ever thought of moving to Alabama?? ;)
I have been wanting to try painting on the fabric. I am considering mixing some of the chalk pain (I mix my own colors, too) with fabric medium, so that it won't be so stiff. One blogger told me that the wax keeps the paint from rubbing off, and that it will need re-waxing about every six months. I'll be interested to see how yours holds up -- it's really really pretty!
ReplyDeleteLove Sharon's taste too and your transformation on this chair is fabulous.
ReplyDeleteThat chair is just amazing - what a beautiful transformation!
ReplyDeleteComing by through MMS - and have decided to stay - your newest follower - would love a follow back when you have the time
