Tips for a beautiful Easter table, and the Pink Linen arrives

My Easter table is always a fun one for me, as I have lots of pastels

in my decor, which just goes with this holiday. I wanted to share a few

of my easy tips to creating a special looking table for your guests.

Easy is the way to go, in my book, and this couldn't have been easier.

I used two colors for the setting, purple and blue. The purple from my

transferware dishes and the blue from my wine glasses. Pick one or two

colors from your china cabinet and set the table on a white cloth.

Then take a soup tureen or a cache pot (decorative flower container) and

add pansies still in their six packs from the garden store in a color that goes

with your dishes or glassware. Simply cut apart the six pack with kitchen scissors and

place as many of the plastic encased pansies as you can. Above you can see
some of the containers are empty, and that is because I used some outside in containers.
I bought enough to use for indoors and after Easter I will put them all outside.

A majolica pedestal bowl that matches my blue opaline stemware would be perfect
for the centerpiece, but many other types of bowl and pots could work as well.

I found it antiquing for about $12 and I LOVE it!!

Add some Easter grass from the supermarket as a cushion and filler in the bottom of the

container. It makes an instant Easter centerpiece and is very charming.

Imagine this in a white bowl or soup tureen, choosing pansy colors that work
with your tableware. Then to make it a little more fun,
I added little candy cups around the flower bowl.

These little paper cups come in all kinds of colors and patterns.

I found them at HomeGoods and they are so adorable and festive.

Candies from packages or plastic tubs from the grocery store were used to fill the tiny cups. The blue striped cups looked best, and I will save the pink cups for an upcoming baby shower. These cup packages sell for $2 to $4, and they add a festive note. You could fill them with pudding or mousse or tiramisu for a desert course at the end of the meal.

Tiny golden bunnies bring to mind the tradition of Easter chocolate rabbits

as the most popular thing a child would want to find in the Easter basket.

Use what you have, and build a table around your colors.

If you have darker colors, then perhaps adding a pink or pastel colored napkin

on top of the plate will give you a nice result.

Many of you know I am an active collector of purple transferware.

One thing I had yet to find was egg cups in purple. I finally found a pair, and so they

will make their debut on the table holding Lindt chocolate carrot sticks.

The table is all set, which leaves me to focus on the cooking part.

See something in the mirror? The bolt of pink fabric....

Yup, its the pink linen I ordered online, and it soon will be made into

draperies for the dining room. Its a beautiful soft pink, and it will

be curtains for the spring and summer months. So fun!

Sunshine is prevailing this Easter Sunday, and so are warm temps!!

We will be out in the courtyard for sure!

A Rustic Classical Thanksgiving Table

It's a pleasure to be joining a talented group of design bloggers
with table settings for Thanksgiving.
How many times do you do the same thing, every year?
Well this group may give you some ideas about switching it up!
My Thanksgiving table came together quite naturally this year.

It centered on one big beautiful thing.

My inspiration point for the table setting was a classical urn that I found

recently at the wonderful SOWA Antique Market in Boston.

You can make your own table centerpiece using a
beautiful soup tureen or a large vessel like a planter or an urn.

To dress this table up, I could have started with a white tablecloth,

but I loved the look of the fancy urn against the rustic wood table planks.

A bunch of wheat (that is actually in a self contained pot) was plunked inside the urn,

and then I filled in the edges with cuttings from one of the mums I had outside.

You can see the beginnings of my table above. The urn without the mums yet,

and the table with just white baby boos and no individual flowers for the settings.

It's nice, but lacking somehow....so keep layering until its pretty but not cluttered.

Each place setting got a special touch with individual antique purple
glass vessels, holding one sprig. It is simple and pretty.

As you may know, I always shop my yard or my home to create special looks.

The sparkle of silver and gold, and farm stand pumpkins and flowers

create the perfect mix of refined and rustic decor that I prefer.

Ignore traditional thinking and set your table

with what appeals to your own personal style.

Use your favorite heirloom pieces to create a table all your own.

This could be my most favorite Thanksgiving table ever!

A Nordic Blue Christmas Tablescape

Its a special treat to be part of this Designer Holiday Table Setting Tour

Sumptuous Tablescapes

A group of us are offering up our inspirational ideas for

holiday dining at home. I can't wait to see what my talented friends

have in store for us all. My table setting inspiration is this~

That idea conjures up icy blues in a wintery mix.

It's fun to come up with a theme when throwing a holiday party

as it gives you a sense of direction when decorating the table.

I love using gold for special occasions and to play down its fanciness

I set the table using a mix of different desert plates at each setting.
An animal hide remnant serves as a runner and created a nice place to lay
a glass garland down the center of the table.

Gold rimmed plates and glassware are all vintage.

The brass cutlery was a gift from my parents and its a huge service

for 12 with everything you can imagine. My mother bought it when we

lived in Thailand and I polished it many many times when my parents were

planning a dinner party. I grew up in a house of entertaining and setting

the table was always a big deal as was planning the menu.

In another Nordic style moment, a sheepskin decks out the host's chair.

For a simple holiday mood I used greenery and white lights as the backdrop
around our new french doors. My french cane back chairs have been painted
with Matthew Mead Studio Metallics in silver. Mixing up the metallics of
gold and silver also create a more relaxed yet upscale table, perfect for a fun
dinner party with family or friends.

Our stately antique mora clock has quintessential Nordic style.

Old gilded reindeer, also from my childhood spent overseas, these nordic style charmers

have little colored mirrors embedded in their craved gilded frames.

They graced many a Christmas mantle over my childhood years,

and I love to use them on my table tops for a whimsical holiday feel.

The biggest design element is just using a lot of white with blue glass balls.

Just a few of these glass ornaments in shades of icy blues pair up with european style

glass garlands to finish the tablescape design. I am all for using what I have

and coming up with different ways to display them. I hope this gives you a few ideas for your holiday dinner table. Think of how different it would look with red or pink glass balls instead?
So easy to change the mood of the table, as long as you keep your main pieces
in basics of white with metallics in gold, silver or both.
