Broken Marble

Gorgeous Marble!
Look at this stunning dressing room!
source: Things That Inspire Blog
I went to a granite yard Tuesday and they had one remnant piece of Calcutta marble.
I was in luck!
The price was right and it would be ready in 72 hours.
The stone guy called today and told me my marble vanity top broke!
It had a scratch and he was trying to do his best to fix it.....
Just like this sink top above, my dear vanity top is broken.
Boo Hoo.
They only deal in granite and it was a fluke that he even had a piece of
lovely white Calcutta marble. He said he has another piece of marble but
it is more yellow. I don't want yellow  marble.
He said he has grey granite with white. I don't want grey granite with white either.
Mr. Maison Decor and I are headed over to pick up our template.
I'll look at the "yellow" marble.
We will likely head over to another stone guy that I just
found on the web that says he has marble.
While I was excited to install my vanity top today,
it looks like it will have to wait.
In the meantime I'll leave you with some lovely marble images.
Love the floor, the bath caddy, the green walls, the beadboard and the marble top!
Elegance. This is all about the tub.
Vintage mirror, bath caddy here as well, and a pretty marble vanity with crystal knobs.
One more look...
Don't you just love this curved piece of marble on thevanity table?
The huge magnifier mirror and the supplemental marble top table?
The window treatment and the sconces...
 The lush floral arrangement...
and the mirrored closet doors...
 I want it all!

  1. Amy,

I feel your pain! To be so close and yet so far... :-( Good luck with the quest. You'll prevail with patience. Maybe they'll feel bad enough to give you the broken pieces for a song and then you could use it for another project? A small table or two? Good luck!

    Hugs,
    Judy

  4. Oh you poor thing! There's nothing worse than waiting for something exciting to happen and something goes wrong. I used marble in my bathroom makeovers last year. It is very fragile but so gorgeous. I didn't want granite either since the patterns were way to bold for the look I wanted. I hope you have good luck on your new search. The dressing room you sharing is to die for! I can't stop drooling!

  5. Ah, what a shame and how disappointing. And you were soooo close. I hope you find what you are looking for - I agree with you though, the yellow doesn't sound right and I would hold out for the marble too. At least it happened to your own project; I really hate when something like that happens to a client - they are not always as patient and understanding. Good luck! xo Sherri

  8. Ugh that's terrible! I've been looking for a slab for my kitchen island and everyone offers up greens and browns at a great price but it's just not right and would feel too much like settling for less. I hope that you find the piece you need!!
The grey on my dining room walls is "Familiarize" from my local True Value Hardware store.

  9. Oh...no. That's too bad. I wonder how someone that works with stuff like that all the time managed to break it. I hope you can find a replacement piece.

  10. Hey there Amy... so sorry for your loss :( However, you know that last picture that you (and I) love so much? One of the things I love about it is that there is some much needed warm tones in it - more of a yellow-ish tone to the accents, like the curtains, the dried hydrangeas??? Maybe the yellow marble will look like that and be SO unique where gray is so common? Either way, take a picture of that yellow marble because I want to see it - never seen yellow marble before. What if this guy did the grey marble in a honed (not shiny) finish and the pretty beveled edge? What if it was a really light grey with veins similar to the marble??? Be open minded when you go... maybe your bathroom can be different than all the others! Sometimes when I'm out of an ingredient to make something and I have to improvise and substitute with something else - a new recipe is born and it's everybody's favorite!!!

    Keep us posted (literally) :)

  12. Hi Amy, I just love all your inspiration photos, especially the pic of the first bathroom. One day I would love to redo my bathroom, even though it's at the bottom of our list I love getting ideas and that pic just made my heart skip! How unfortunate about the marble breaking, hope you will come across another piece soon! take care, Maryann

  13. Gorgeous bath photos! I can relate to the broken countertop. Once they cut it, it gets fragile.
We had a granite kitchen coutertop crack & fall when the men were installing it. My first thought was anyone hurt, luckily they were okay. But then I was in tears, hiding in a corner in the living room, afraid to look because it sounded like pieces flew everywhere. Luck again, only 5 new floor tiles were broke and no damage to the cabinets. Plus there was a similar sister slab available.
    Good luck in your search.

  15. GAAAAAAAAH! He broke your marble! (Several really bad words here) Sigh... Oh well...

That one bathroom with the white hydrangeas and the big wonderful, fabulous, to die for round mirror, is just so great.... i love the way the size and the roundness of the mirror adds some element to the space that finishes it off perfectly.
