Auction to Etsy

This crewel work rug is hand embroidered in 100% wool.
All done in soft pastels on a black background, it is stunning.
I bought it at the auction and have listed it for sale in my Etsy store.
I realized a lot of people don't know what Etsy is~so let me explain:
Etsy is an online marketplace or shopping venue.
You go to Etsy.com and then either look around randomly
or plug in what you are looking for in their search box.
The thing that makes Etsy unique is that
everything sold is either vintage or handmade by a seller.
A lot of bloggers have Etsy stores set up on their blogs,
and quite often you will find things that reflect their blog style for sale in their shop,
so next time take a look around your favorite blogger's shop.
I just started going to auctions and have been getting some great things for my store.
A Victorian pitcher in cobalt blue with handpainted details.
Note: This item sold one hour after I listed it! Yay!
The Scales of Justice~what a great gift for the lawyer or policeman in the family.
Vintage brass scale on marble dripping with crystals.
Here is an idea~
Take off the crystal dishes and use it as a jewelry tree
for draping your jewelry on your dresser or vanity.
This was a great find~
a complete collection of antique German canisters.
These ceramic canisters were on the well to do housewife's wish list in the early 1900s.
Its hard to get a complete set,
and you will often see just 3 pieces or so of a set for sale, at hefty prices.
This German set includes the oil and vinegar cruets.
This set has tons of gold work on it!
You won't see flour listed on the large canisters.
They didn't use flour!
There is Barley, Oatmeal, and Rice, as well as Sugar and Coffee.
Well I have always had a thing for these sets,
and this was the second one I found this summer.
This first Bohemian set I found is marked Czecha-slovakia.
I found it at an antique shop in New Hampshire.
It is also a complete set...I think the sets are finding me now.
They are such pretty little containers.
Can't you just imagine the housewife taking
out some pepper to add to her goulash dinner?
Nowadays they make pretty additions to kitchen counter tops and hutches.
Anyhow, I was surprised to find that
my own mom had never visited my Etsy store
because she didn't know what it was~
now for a little self promotion:
I hope you visit my store.

  1. I've found that lots of people don't know what Etsy is either. Maybe I should do a similar post?? When I had my shop, I'd tell people who came in they could also find a good portion of my transferware at my online Etsy shop and almost all of them hadn't heard of it. As one who sold on Ebay for 10 years and made the switch over, I personally like it SO much better for a variety of reasons. Admittedly Etsy doesn't have the eyeballs Ebay does...yet...but it's happening for sure. I subscribe to Ina Steiner, a publication that keeps track of online sales sites like Ebay, Etsy, Artfire, etc. and have gained much information there. Ebays numbers are waaaaay down...both buyers and sellers are going elsewhere. Etsy is a friendlier environment in my opinion and you're right...so many of us bloggers have opened up shops there which reflect much of our own personal style. I have my eye on that chandy in yours...haven't checked in a week or so to see if it has sold but I keep hoping I get a cash windfall and could buy it! I love your shop btw and it does seem to reflect you, 'Maison Decor'.

You sure found some super finds! I love that pitcher and those canister sets...adorable. I have a partial German set that is delftware (I collected Delft before transferware but sold almost all of it online once I really started becoming obsessed with transferware! lol).

Nice to see a pic of your Mom.

I will send you an email tonight or tomorrow (in response to yours) and get a blue set worked up for you at a good price. We can talk more then...busy here trying to prepare foods for tomorrow, etc.

    Have a great weekend Amy,

    Nancy

  2. So many people ask me, "what is an etsy shop!" I always have to explain. I think they have been living under a rock, but hey, not everyone can be an "informed blogger extraordinare!" LOL!

Love your auction finds. You are doing really well. I had some luck with the auction on Friday and plan to post about it soon.

Best of luck with your Etsy shop.
